Security Online Course by Texas Certified Tactical Academy (TCTA)

Course Enrollment and Notices

(Contact form is below this notice)

Upon successful completion of the course(s) and passing the exam, students will be given a certificate of completion which is recognized and approved by every licensed security agency in Texas and the Texas Department of Public Safety – Regulatory Services Division (DPS-RSD).

You only get ONE TIME to take this test; there are NO FREE retests. If you fail, you will need to sign up and pay again.

To ensure we have proof of who we are certifying and to cut down on fraud, each student (after we reach out to you), will be required to email us back a copy of their valid, State issued, picture identification. We will only provide a certificate that matches that name exactly as shown on your State ID.

Your ID must be current, valid, and cannot be a temporary, missing your picture, or have any information blacked out or covered up (or appear altered). It must be ID from a State within the United States only. The Texas Department of Public Safety – Regulatory Services Division (DPS-RSD) registers you and tracks you through your Social Security Number; as as such, they require all schools to place the “Last Six” of your SSN on your class training certificate.

We understand the concern with this request, and we understand many may feel that your SSN is not supposed to be used for ID purposes; however, this is what DPS-RSD requires and if a student refuses to provide their “Last Six” and/or ID on request, we will not be able to provide access to our site or a training certificate.

All fees paid are Non-refundable and Non-transferable which means after you pay for a course, if you decide that you do not wish to send us a copy of your ID via email or disclose the last six of your social, you will forfeit any fee paid.

NOTE: Level-2 Non-Commission Course ($30.00): is done 100% online whereas your course and test are all online through this site. Once you pass, we will email you a course certificate of completion. The Level-2 Non-Commission class is FREE if you take it together with the Level-3 Commission course. If you take the Level-2 course by itself, it is $30.00.

Level-3 Commission Course ($175.00): is 50% online through this site (reading course material), and 50% in person at our classroom in Pflugerville, TX (on the dates we post on our site). You will be required to attend two days of in-person training to cover Defensive Tactics, Firearms (with qualification), Baton, Pepper Spray, Handcuffing, and the final State exam (in person, not online).

Once that is complete and you pass the final State exam in person, you will be handed your certificates before you leave our classroom that day. After paying and sending us ID, we then will send you the online access to our site to read over the detailed course material at your own pace.

The in-person part (given at our office) will only be given on designated (scheduled) days we have posted; you cannot just show up unannounced and unscheduled to “test out”- it will be on a day and time that is posted on our site.

Ammunition is not provided with any class; however, we do provide free weapon/equipment rentals to all students who need it as part of the Level-3 course.

All range fees are paid for by the student once we arrive at the range – There are no hidden fees, just ammo and range fees.

Pepper Spray Course ($30.00): Our newly released online Pepper Spray class is 100% done online. There is no State or Federal law that requires you to be sprayed in order to carry it, nor does DPS require that you be sprayed; maybe your employer might, but we do not in order to certify you.

Yes, unarmed guards can carry Pepper Spray and do not need to be a Level-3 Commissioned officer to do so. If you are taking the Level-3 Commission course, Do NOT sign up for this class, as it is already included for free with each Level-3 Commission course. This class is intended for the unarmed security officers that have not attended the Level-3 course but want to carry Pepper Spray, and the Level-3 officers that may not have gotten certified elsewhere (from other schools).

Enrollment & Questions

DPS-RSD Required statement: Please be advised under the Private Security Act (Occ. Code Chapter 1702) and Administrative Rule 35.4 (37 Tex. Admin. Code 1), a criminal conviction may disqualify you from a registration, commission, or license under the Act. You may wish to review Rule 35.4’s list of disqualifying offenses and the related periods of ineligibility, available on the department’s website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/psb/index.htm.  You also have a right to request from the department a criminal history evaluation letter under Occupations Code Section 53.102

Please note: This is not a license, only a certificate of completion of a training course you took, and that we do not issue licenses as only Texas DPS-RSD issues security licenses. You will still be required to go to their site, apply, and go through a background check to get the actual license. They will require you to upload a copy of the training certificate we provide you with and submit fingerprints – but you must go through their licensing process.

Texas Certified Tactical Academy (TCTA) does not promise or guarantee you will pass any class or that the State of Texas will approve every license application submitted just because you paid or attended a course here. We also have not made any offers of employment or work referrals to anyone as a condition to attending or paying for any classes with us.
