Texas DPS-RSD requires that you attend a Level-3 Commission and/or a Level-4 PPO security Recertification/Renewal class to renew your existing Level-3 Commission and/or your existing Level-4 PPO licenses every two years. Although some of this can be done online, the Range Qualification and Weaponless Defense must be done in-person by all training schools (per Texas DPS as of April 1st, 2024). Any security school not doing that, is not operating correctly; we provide all aspects to the class for you (Course Material, State Exam, Range Qualification, Weaponless Defense, and the official Texas DPS- RSD state certificate to all students who complete and pass the course).
Yes, Weaponless Defense is required for requalification/renewal students by TX DPS in their last course update back on April 1st, 2024 (last year), along with requiring MMPI exams for Level-3 Commission officers as well at that time. This is NOT the class to take if you are seeking your Level-3 Commission license for the first time- you would need to take the full Level-3 Commission class, not a requalification/recertification class.
Texas DPS-RSD recommends that you process your Renewal/Recertification no later than 30 days prior to your current expiration date (to allow DPS to process your renewal without any laps in licenses while they process it and mail it out). Our price for this course is $99.00 (new or retuning students), with all students aware that they must buy or provide their own ammo and pay their range fees once we arrive at the range. TCTA will provide FREE handgun and shotgun rentals if needed to each student; the range will provide free hearing and eye protection when we arrive.
How our course works: You sign up through our site (send in an enrollment form), note the price and dates. Although you can take the classroom portion online to save you time, each student must come and attend the in-person portion at our school in Pflugerville, Texas (on the dates we have posted, not at a student’s leisure, the in-person dates are structured and posted). Once your class fee is paid (online and through our site), you will get access to the online portion of the course which can be done at home/work. You will then take the test online (all of which saves you time when you arrive at our school and shortens the time you spend there). You will then show up for a range briefing, go to the range, then go through a block of weaponless defense and you will leave in several hours with the certificate in-hand (easy process). Requalification/Renewal students no longer need to show up at 7:00am and sit through the classroom portion and test- this is all done online at home and prior to arrival which cuts a few hours off your morning. We have no agreements with any other training schools therefore it will not matter if you took part of this course elsewhere, and want us to go behind them and piece together your course or documents- you would need to pay the full price and go through our entire program from A-Z (which is still reduced time on a recertification and still one-day). Other schools should be smart, reach out, and partner up with us- they don’t while at the same time many are not giving the full class, we do.
